DÉRIVE
A design magazine created by a group of five students. We had the task to create a magazine about design in various forms. We decided to have a clean, typography-driven style for the magazine and through compromising we found a style that we were all happy with. This was then sent to a printer and we could finally hold a copy in our hands. 60 pages of design content, meticulously worked through and we were all pleased and proud of what we had created.
Co-creators on this project were Michaela Koristova, Eveline Ingesson, Gintare Kunigonyte and Magdalena Kubincova.
We decided to have a theme for the magazine in order to maintain continuity throughout the articles and the style of it. This theme ended up being a world theme were we decided to section the magazine by the continents, and it was easy to divide the work by the continents. We researched for interesting and relevant design topics to write about for each continent and wrote all content of the articles. The name of the magazine was also chosen to suit the theme and the cover illustration was also created after this idea.
The sections were all divided by this type of spread. This was to create unity while having a clear structure in the magazine and division between the sections. All continents were assigned a color that influenced the color choices of all the spreads within the section. The colors can be seen on the index spread that is displayed a few images above this.
I was assigned the section of Europe and decided to write an article about Bauhaus, as the school celebrated their centenary during that year. The second article was a column about working within the design field. Every element displayed on these spreads were created by me (apart from that little crocodile on page 26, that is the work of Peter Saville for Lacoste).
These images display one spread each from the remaining sections, created by the other creators. They are in the following order; North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Australia. Click here to see the full magazine and the rest of the amazing spreads created by the other creators.
